Skim through the health section of your trusted newspaper and you'll see a resurgence in stories about acid reflux. That's a disorder in which stomach acid enters the esophagus, with symptoms like heartburn, sore throat, burping and regurgitation.
Reflux hurts. There's no question about that. And many Americans reach for proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and related antacids to suppress acid production and relieve their pain. Yet, according to a new study released by American researchers, that's not only ineffective as a long-term treatment to address the causes of reflux, it could also be deadly
